Rain Barrel - April 2013

Artists were asked to turn plain rain barrels into functional art for Cary causes. Me and couple of other like-minded artists participated in creating this rain barrel using the  "Madhubani" folk art style.

Our group - Vividh - is a group of like-minded women who are talented, creative, and who have a burning desire to give back to society.

Designed barrels are currently on display throughout Cary for the month of April, including at Spring Daze on April 27 as part of Earth Day. Following Spring Daze, the artisan rain barrels will be auctioned off, with proceeds benefiting the Town’s OASIS program and Relief for Recreation Scholarship Fund.

'Chittara' - a tribal art form from India

Sampada Agarwal  July 2012

I spent 5 days with my sister in the Uttar Karnataka area  in India learning a new tribal art form called 'Chittara'. The incessant rain, the paddy fields, the mooing of cows, painting in a hut - all these events combined to form a novel experience for me.

I hope to work on this art form on my own and experiment on various mediums. For now, I am happy to have learned it from one of the masters of the art form.

Visual Art Classes at Town of Cary

Sampada Agarwal  June 2012

Summer 2012 was pretty hectic for me - I offered 4 different art work shops for 2 age groups in collaboration with Hum Sub and Town of Cary. It was the very first time that Indian art workshops were offered through the Town of Cary. It was a great experience for me, both as an artist and teacher.

I am looking forward to exhibiting work done by my students at the Cary Diwali 2012 Exhibition.

As a prelude to the workshops, here is a story about my journey as an artist by Lindsey Chester.
